Omicron, is a variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is responsible for causing COVID-19. The Omicron variant has a higher number of mutations in its spike protein compared to earlier variants, thereby increasing its spread and transmissibility. Unlike earlier variants like delta that affected the lungs, omicron and its sub variants tend to cause more upper respiratory symptoms includes runny nose, cough, fever, sore throat and fatigue among others.
