Frequently asked Questions and Answers:

1. What is TYPBAR-TCV and what is its use?
TYPBAR-TCV is a vaccine designed to prevent Typhoid, a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi, a Gram-negative bacterium. Typhoid infection presents with symptoms such as prolonged high fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and a rash. It can lead to severe complications, including protracted fever lasting for weeks or even months. While Typhoid can be treated with antibiotics, rising antibiotic resistance complicates its management. However, immunization can effectively prevent Typhoid. Clinical studies have demonstrated that TYPBAR-TCV is well-tolerated and highly effective for individuals aged 6 months to 45 years.

2. Key Considerations Before Administering TYPBAR-TCV
Inform doctor before getting vaccinated with TYPBAR if:

  • The individual has a history of allergic reactions to the typhoid vaccine or any of its components
  • The individual is currently ill
  • The individual is taking antibiotics
  • The individual has a weakened immune system due to conditions such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, or medications that affect the immune system

3. How is TYPBAR-TCV administered?
TYPBAR-TCV is administered through intramuscular injection. For infants aged ≤12 months, the injection should be given in the vastus lateralis muscle (anterolateral aspect of the thigh), while for children aged ≥12 months and adults, it should be administered in the deltoid muscle (upper arm). A single dose of any Typhoid conjugate vaccine is recommended for individuals aged 6 months and older.

4. What are the common side effects after TYPBAR-TCV administration?
Common side effects of the Typhoid vaccine may include pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site, fever, headache, and muscle pain.
