GARDASIL 9 is a vaccine indicated for the prevention of cervical, vulvar, vaginal, anal, oropharyngeal and other head and neck cancers caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) Types 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58; cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and anal precancerous or dysplastic lesions caused by HPV Types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58; and genital warts caused by HPV Types 6 and 11.
For children between 9-14 years of age:
Two doses should be given at an interval of 6-12 months.
For individuals between 14-45 years of age:
Three dose schedule is recommended at 0, 2 and 6 months.
Gardasil 9 is administered as an intramuscular injection in the deltoid region of the arm or anterolateral region of the thigh by a trained healthcare professional. Do not self-inject the vaccine.
Gardasil 9 is generally well tolerated. General side-effects include mild pain and redness at injection site which is transient and self resolves within a few days. Serious side effects are very rare.
Gardasil 9 is contraindicated in cases which have had allergic reaction to any previous dose of the vaccine or to any component of the vaccine.
Gardasil 9 vaccination can be taken at any time of the day, and there are no specific requirements such as fasting or post-meal administration.
Gardasil 9 is generally well tolerated and does not disrupt your daily activities, including food, travel and medication use. However, if you have any concerns or specific health conditions, it's advisable to discuss them with your healthcare provider before vaccination.
