Covaxin

Covaxin is India's indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) - National Institute of Virology (NIV).

This indigenous, inactivated vaccine is produced within Bharat Biotech's high containment facility classified as BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3).

Covaxin is designed using the Whole-Virion Inactivated Vero Cell platform technology. Inactivated vaccines do not replicate, minimizing the risk of reversion and associated pathological effects. They consist of deactivated viruses, incapable of causing infection while still instructing the immune system to generate a protective response against the infection.
