India Gets Its First Dengue Vaccine: Qdenga to Arrive in 2027!

India is set to get its first approved dengue vaccine, Qdenga, in the first half of 2027. Developed by Takeda, the vaccine received marketing authorisation from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) in July 2026 for people aged 4 to 60 years.¹

The latest development is the agreement between Takeda and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, under which Dr Reddy’s will promote and distribute Qdenga in India’s private market for paediatric and adult vaccination. Commercial availability is expected in the first half of 2027, subject to the remaining local processes.

Qdenga Gets India’s Green Light - What Happened?

CDSCO approved Qdenga in July 2026 following an assessment of its quality, safety and effectiveness. The approval makes Qdenga the first dengue vaccine in India.

Qdenga is designed to protect against all four dengue virus serotypes. Its approval covers individuals between 4 and 60 years of age.

Dengue is mainly transmitted by infected Aedes mosquitoes. Dengue is transmitted in various parts of India, and vaccination can be one of the tools for dengue prevention.

But vaccination does not replace mosquito control measures. Avoiding mosquito bites and removing mosquito breeding sites continue to be important components of dengue prevention.²

The approval for people aged 4-60 does not mean that every person in this age group should automatically receive the vaccine.
